Bedazzling high and fine jewellery pieces that stole the spotlight at the acclaimed international film festival

While the Met Gala 2018 saw waves of celebrities donning out-of-this-world costumes that showed off their modern interpretations of Catholicism, the 71st Annual Cannes Film Festival, was a much more subtle and classical affair. The prestigious international film festival had celebrities donning high couture gowns and tuxedos that certainly took our breath away.

Naturally, some very stunning jewellery pieces effortlessly stole the spotlight for the evening. We pick the best four that we think deserve our utmost appreciation and admiration.

Bvlgari

It’s not as if Chiara Mastroianni’s Saint Laurent Fall 2018 dress wasn’t vivid enough with its bold floral motifs and sparkly sequins, but the Italian-French actress and singer surely knew how to choose the right bling to perfect her red-carpet look. She wore not one, but four of Bvlgari’s rings from the Serpenti collection: one in white gold that features 38 buff top cut emeralds and pave-set diamonds; two in white gold with a round mounted setting pave; and the last one distinctly bearing the Margaritifera farmed mother of pearl. Brand ambassador Bella Hadid also did the job in luring attention to her neckline with diamond earrings and a High Jewelry Diva’s Dream necklace. On another night, Hadid let her hair down and went for the High Jewelry Giardini necklace in white gold.

Chanel

When animal motifs came to play, Kristen Stewart’s L’esprit Du Lion “Timeless” brooch, courtesy of Chanel, certainly caught the attention of many. She flawlessly paired this tasteful lion brooch in 18k white gold and diamonds with an elegant black silk dress from Chanel’s Fall Winter 2018/19 collection, and eventually pulled off her signature mystifying look with dramatic eye make-up.

Chopard

It would have been impossible to miss the gigantic, glimmering cuff on British-Thai actress Araya Hargate that evening, especially when she paired it with a gorgeous striking red cape gown. The stunning wrist cuff comes from Chopard’s High Jewellery collection, and is crafted in 18k white gold with diamonds. Hargate completes her look with a pair of white gold earrings and ring that bears a South Sea pearl.

Meanwhile, Burundian singer and jury member of the festival, Khadja Nin kept the prints to her ensemble, instead opting for classic 18k white gold earrings with pear-shaped diamonds to complete her look. Chinese actress Zhao Tao stood out for more than one reason that night. East-meets-west gown-meets-suit ensemble aside, we can’t keep our eyes off the 18k dangling earrings with cushion-cut sapphies from the Precious Chopard Collection.

Pomellato

For French actress Virginie Ledoyen, less was definitely more when it came to pairing her red carpet outfit with jewellery. Her baby blue silk dress was complemented with a minimal yet exquisite pair of Pomellato Nudo earrings in rose gold. Each earring bears a cushion-cut blue topaz that sits atop a cluster of pave diamonds.

De Grisogono

A peacock is beautiful, it knows it and certainly flaunts it. The same goes for Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai. The sexy star injected a generous amount of aplomb into her figure-hugging purple butterfly gown with jewellery from de Grisogono’s Melody of Colours collection. These jewels went beyond sheer gold and white diamonds — the pink gold earrings and rings that adorned her are also liberally dusted with amethysts, rubies and orange sapphires. Sounds like a mouthful, and certainly doesn’t look easy to pull off, but Rai did it perfectly.
