Blast Off: Dr. Woo x Roger Dubuis Excalibur Monotourbillon Dr. Woo Episode III

By Alvin Wong 19 June, 2025

The third collaboration between this iconoclastic pair teleports watch lovers to the far reaches of outer space

This planet, it seems, cannot contain the expansive artistic instincts of Roger Dubuis and Dr. Woo. The fiercely imaginative watchmaking house, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, reunites with the renowned Los Angeles tattoo artist for a third collaboration—one that once again contemplates the mysteries of space and time, infused with bold ornamentation and technical finesse that only these two creative firebrands can conjure.

Limited to just 28 pieces, the Dr. Woo x Roger Dubuis Excalibur Monotourbillon Dr. Woo Episode III picks up where the 2021 and 2023 editions left off. Like its predecessors, this latest iteration whisks collectors off on a cosmic voyage—its celestially inspired design and superlative complication inviting close inspection.

This time, Roger Dubuis presents the Excalibur Monotourbillon as a canvas for Dr. Woo’s distinctive single-needle style, one that eschews the bold lines and vivid colours of traditional tattooing in favour of a minimalist, monochrome aesthetic.

Clad in pink gold and titanium, the 42mm watch invites the wearer on a voyage of discovery. From front to back, galactically inspired motifs abound—a spiral-shaped component symbolising the entrance to a “black hole”; a tourbillon cage capped with a polished, spiral-shaped cover christened ‘Tourbillon Galaxy’; mysterious laser-engraved symbols on the bracelet links; and a pink gold depiction of a rocket with astral trails etched across the sapphire crystal, inscribed with the message “We Come in Peace,” among other delightful details.

Naturally, Roger Dubuis rises to the occasion when it comes to horological muscle. At its heart beats the calibre RD515, a flying tourbillon that spins theatrically at 7 o’clock. Long regarded as one of the most visually entrancing mechanisms in haute horlogerie, the tourbillon is also one of Roger Dubuis’ signature complications.

And for all its extraterrestrial inspiration, the watch remains grounded in performance. The calibre RD515, developed and manufactured entirely in-house, promises 72 hours of power reserve and bears the prestigious Poinçon de Genève—a hallmark of provenance, precision, and exemplary craftsmanship.
