Blancpain gives the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe a minor facelift

Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, Blancpain

Out Of The Blue

Peculiar design codes make the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe one of the most unique modern dive watches today. Those rectangular block hands with thin metallic tips are certainly atypical of any timepiece then or now. Its knurled uni-directional bezel and largely bare bones dial design also add to its unique appearance.

For 2017, Blancpain has given this timepiece a cool technical upgrade: The watch now comes with a blue ceramic bezel insert with hour markers in Liquidmetal, a Swatch Group proprietary alloy that is known to be extremely stable and highly resistant to deformation. Harking back to timepieces of the 1950s, this three-hand model has also been downsized to 38mm – a good 5mm from the 2013 relaunch original – so even slender, feminine wrists may give this elegant sports watch a shot.
