seat to suite: The Dubai-based airline gives its First Class an elaborate makeover

Suite dreams are made of these — and who are we to disagree? From pioneering the concept of the First Class Private Suite in 2003, Emirates has continued to raise its game when it comes to first class travel. As part of a multi-million dollar upgrade to its fleet of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, the airline recently debuted its new, fully enclosed First Class Private Suites, which guarantee passengers a unique inflight experience focused on thoughtful luxury.

Each private suite boasts a new colour palette of soft greys, cream and champagne, with interior details inspired by the design philosophy of luxury automotive brand Mercedes-Benz. There are floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, high-tech control panels, soft leather seating, and mood lighting – not to mention several impressive world-firsts. For instance, suites located in the middle aisle are fitted with ‘virtual windows’ that project the view from outside the aircraft using real-time, fibre-optic camera technology.

A personal video-call service allows for easy communication with cabin crew, providing passengers with complete privacy while enabling them to stay connected (there’s even a service window for those who prefer to be served drinks and canapes undisturbed). Every spacious suite allows ample room for passengers to change in, even after their bed has been made. The soft leather seat effortlessly reclines into a fully flat bed or a ‘zero-gravity’ position inspired by NASA technology, which gives a feeling of weightlessness and total relaxation. Boarding begins in May.
