The cat’s out of the bag

The F-PACE is a massively important car for Jaguar, and we say this without any hint of overstatement. There’s the small matter of it being the first SUV in the history of the marque, and you know what they say about first impressions.

Then of course, there’s how Jaguar is literally banking on the F-PACE, in that it’s hoping the SUV will send the carmaker laughing all the way to the bank. And we all know that profitability does manufacturers a power of good – a healthy balance sheet means more money to invest in better products and better products mean more profitability.

It’s a virtuous circle, and the petrolheads have something to look forward to as well, because more cash in the coffers could see the C-X75 hybrid hypercar finally being put into production.

But more to the cat at hand, the F-PACE. It takes many cues from the F-TYPE coupe, including the aluminium chassis, wraparound tail-lights and double-wishbone front suspension arrangement. Jaguar says the F-PACE is the “ultimate practical sports car”. There’s no doubt about it being practical, given it has 650 litres of luggage space, but whether it can tango with the likes of the Porsche Macan and BMW X3 is a different matter, though given Jaguar’s recent run of form in the handling department, that wouldn’t be altogether unlikely.
