Chopard immortalises the Orchid with its Red Carpet Collection 2018

Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2018, Orchid Earrings

Chopard crafts a lavish duo of lifelike, orchid-shaped earrings for this year’s Red Carpet Collection

Not since Leo Delibes composed his famous Flower Duet for the opera Lakme has a more charming tribute been paid to the natural beauty of flowers in bloom than by Chopard, with its stunning Red Carpet Collection 2018. Among the 71 creations are two pairs of earrings designed by Chopard’s co-president and creative director Caroline Scheufele.

The petals in the white and pink version are set with pink sapphires, white opal cabochons, tsavorites and diamonds, and are surrounded by tinted titanium sepals coated with a fine layer of white ceramic. The slender gold stem and green buds have been set with over 4,800 tsavorites in an exercise of supreme skill and patience.

Similarly, the version with blooming purple titanium flowers comes set with 42 carats of yellow sapphires and 24.6 carats of garnets. White opals adorn the lips of the orchids, creating shimmering light effects that echo the way these blooms imitate the backs of female insects in order to attract males into the heart of the plant. Both earrings reflect the maison’s numerous jewellery skills along with its exploration of state-of-the-art technologies, such as the use of additive manufacturing fusion technology to produce the perfect blend of finesse and fluidity.
