Mercedes-Benz’s legendary off-roader arrives in full force, with the petrol-powered G 500, the ferocious AMG G 63, and the first-ever all-electric G 580

It’s not every day an icon reinvents itself–let alone in triplicate. And that’s exactly what Mercedes-Benz Singapore has pulled off with the launch of its all-new G-Class line-up, unveiled during G-HAUS, a three-day experiential showcase at Gillman Barracks. For the first time, local buyers met the complete family: the updated G 500, the unapologetically muscular Mercedes-AMG G 63, and the all-electric G 580 with EQ Technology–the first of its kind.

Starting with the headline act: the G 580 with EQ Technology. The question was: can the G-Class go electric without losing its soul? And the short answer: absolutely. Beneath the familiar boxy silhouette sits a ladder-frame chassis, solid axles, and four electric motors, one for each wheel, delivering 432 kW of power and up to 491 km of range. Party tricks include the G-turn (a literal on-the-spot spin; peep the tire marks on the tarmac), G-steering, and an Offroad Crawl function. Oh, and it can wade through water up to 85 cm deep. Because electric doesn’t mean delicate.

But if your ears still crave the growl of an engine, the G 500’s 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder mild hybrid (with 449 hp) offers the perfect blend of refinement and muscle. Expect stainless steel accents, multibeam LED headlights, and a cabin wrapped in supple nappa leather. Now these are the kind of details that remind you this is a luxury suite on wheels as much as it is an off-roader.

Now for those who want their G-Class with a side of pure theatre, the Mercedes-AMG G 63 remains the ultimate statement. The handcrafted 4.0-litre V8 biturbo produces 585 hp, catapulting it from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. Throw in AMG active ride control suspension and an exhaust note that’s pure symphony, and you have an SUV that’s as happy devouring dunes and dominating city streets.

Across all three models, the G-Class now comes with the MBUX infotainment system, updated driver assistance tech, and more than a million possible MANUFAKTUR customisation combinations; think an endless combination of heritage-inspired paint finishes to bespoke interior trims.

With this line-up, Mercedes-Benz has ensured there’s a G-Class for every kind of adventurer, whether you want to roam in silence, roar with V8 fury, or strike the perfect balance in between.
