From now until to 6 June, Sotheby’s is hosting its first ever dedicated online watch sale, which includes nine timepieces by Patek Philippe out of a total of 114 watches. The catalogue may be small but the watches themselves are big news. This is not the time to be looking for your typical been-there-done-that Calatravas or Nautiluses. We’ve zoomed in on five watches that are either super rare or the first known watch of its kind. What’s even more amazing are the estimates, with prices starting from S$9,800 to S$53,400 for a solid gold skeletonised and diamond set watch.

Patek Philippe Ref. 5396G-001
Estimate: HK$180,000 – HK$260,000 (S$32,000 – S$46,300)
The Ref. 5396 Annual Calendar was first launched in 2006 with unique double in-line calendar apertures that reflect the style of the 1940s and 1950s. Ref. 5396 also features the latest generation of automatic calibres, the 324 series.
Patek Philippe Ref. 3727
Estimate: HK$55,000 – HK$80,000 (S$9,800 – S$14,245)
Offered in excellent condition, the present lot Ref. 3727 is a remarkable example of vintage Patek Philippe that incorporates the use of precious stone on dial.
Patek Philippe Ref. 5015
Estimate: HK$120,000 – HK$160,000 (S$21,370 – S$28,500)
Ref. 5015 was launched in 1994 until 1999. It is distinguished by being the only known Patek Philippe wristwatch to indicate not only phases of the moon, but also ages of the moon.
Patek Philippe Ref. 3998P
Estimate: HK$80,000 – HK$140,000 ( S$14,250 – S$25,000)
Produced from approximately 1989 until 2005, Ref. 3998 was the first automatic waterproof Calatrava wristwatch with date offered by Patek Philippe. This lot is accompanied by a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin and presentation box, which makes the watch even more desirable.

Estimate: HK$195,000 – HK$300,000 (S$34,700 – S$53,400)
Skeletonised wristwatches by Patek Philippe are increasingly sought after by collectors today. To the best of our knowledge, only around 200 pieces of Ref. 3881 were made from 1980 to the late 1990s.
