Where we’d take Donald Trump, president of the US when he visits Singapore

Taking what could be the most important man in the United States around our city’s most loved restaurants, bars and shops

Ever since it was announced that Singapore would be the location of the summit between US president Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, our city hasn’t been the same. There’s much buzz about where they’ll meet and where they’ll stay (in presidential suites of our top hotels, no doubt). And of course, we’ve taken interest in where President Trump may like to visit, in the case of a miracle where he has a say in his itinerary. Here are our suggestions that’ll ensure a memorable time.

Dine

In the case where both parties wish to continue private discussions after the summit, we’d place our bets on Summer Pavilion to provide the location. After all, a meal of dim sum garners few detractors, and can be had any time of the day. Kim and Trump, who are both familiar with this Cantonese style of tapas (which translates to delighting the heart), can comfortably discuss mutually beneficial deals in this one-Michelin-starred restaurant, where Chinese Premier Xi Jinping too can easily slide in to warm up frosty international relations.

And with Trump harbouring a famous affinity for barbecue and burgers — he adores fast food and has a strong affinity for steak, topped with ketchup, no less — Burnt Ends is an option to consider. The restaurant in Tangjong Pagar/Outram serves hearty wood-fired dishes like its pork tomahawk and pulled pork brioche burgers. He might also enjoy a dinner at The Bird Southern Table & Bar, which combines his love for swanky settings, five-star service and artery-clogging goodness.

Get Dressed

Without a doubt, President Trump is a Billionaire Couture kind of guy. Although the brand no longer has a standalone boutique in Singapore, its sister brands like Stefano Ricci, Kiton, Brioni and Araldi still have thriving stores that are frequented by the high society of Singapore. Might he fancy belts and shoes fashioned from exotic skins? Since President Trump might not be the most adventurous dresser, local tailors like KayJen Dylan and Kevin Seah can nonetheless customise his go-to black suits and red ties.

Stay

After raising a cup of tea to a better world, President Trump might like to retire to the Presidential Suite of The St. Regis Hotel Singapore. It comes with a private terrace, jacuzzi and a gym, think of it as a home away from home. The room also houses prized art by Marc Chagall and Mark Tobey, which we reckon is something the president would appreciate Also, The St. Regis Hotel Singapore is one of our city’s most reputable hotels, which houses several esteemed eateries and the highly decorated Remede Spa.

Nightcaps

Even though President Trump does not drink and claims to have never drank, he may enjoy relaxing at a private bar before calling it a night. Manhattan Bar is just a stone’s throw away from The St. Regis Hotel Singapore, and was recently named Asia’s best bar for the second year running. Another art deco-style bar themed on the Roaring Twenties of New York City is Atlas, which is the bar with the largest gin collection in the world.
