The Bell & Ross BR-05 Skeleton Phantom Ceramic is a modern, urban masterpiece

By Audrey Simon 15 July, 2025

Essentially, the BR-05 Skeleton Phantom Ceramic is a modern urban masterpiece, represented by its design, technical excellence, and tribute to stealth technology and art

The new BR-05 Skeleton Phantom Ceramic by Bell & Ross, limited to 500 pieces, draws inspiration from stealth aircraft. The watch’s design is reminiscent of the radar-absorbing materials and coatings used in stealth aircraft. The result is a watch that exudes a mysterious and modern character, highlighting the brand’s military roots and commitment to high-performance, instrument-like design.

Since the introduction of the original Phantom model in 2007, the monochromatic black aesthetic has evolved into one of the brand’s most recognisable design signatures. The BR-05 Skeleton Phantom Ceramic, part of the BR-05 line launched in 2019, introduces a bold new dimension to this urban-inspired collection, renowned for its distinctive “round in a square” case design.

The new launch features a fully skeletonised movement visible through a transparent black-tinted sapphire dial, housed in a ceramic case and bracelet with polished and brushed finishes. The all-black “Phantom” finish draws inspiration from stealth aircraft, contemporary art, and modernist design to create an elegant and mysterious presence.

The monochromatic dial presents an intricate interplay of light and shadow, with a black-tinted sapphire central plate that reveals the rhodium-plated skeleton movement beneath. A matte black flange with black Super-LumiNova indexes and hands ensures legibility during the day while emitting a green glow at night. The rhodium-plated seconds hand adds a touch of contrast, maintaining Bell & Ross’s hallmark clarity.

Skeletonisation in this model is both an art and a technical feat, requiring attention to detail to lighten and refine the movement without compromising strength or performance. The BR-CAL.322-1 calibre offers a 54-hour power reserve and operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, showcasing precision and beauty from both the dial and sapphire case back. The custom black oscillating weight spins smoothly, revealing finely open-worked components.

Crafted from black ceramic, the watch is scratch and corrosion resistance, hypoallergenic comfort, and a lightweight feel. Bell & Ross’s two decades of expertise in ceramic finishing are evident in the polished and brushed surfaces, creating a luxurious interplay of light that enhances the watch’s jewel-like quality.

Water-resistant to 100 metres, the BR-05 Skeleton Phantom Ceramic is available with either an all-ceramic bracelet or a black rubber strap with a folding clasp. Sized at 41mm, the case balances bold presence with harmonious proportions, complementing its black finish.
