Whether it’s to wind down after a long day — or get the night started — these bars offer both classic and contemporary drinks and small bites

Whatever your choice of poison, be it artisanal cocktails, fine wines, Champagnes or craft beers, there’s bound to be a watering hole in Singapore that does it exactly the way you like it. But, there’s one caveat — where does one go, and what should one order first? For those who thrive on a liquid diet, there’s a cornucopia of bars and restaurants all around town, where the drinks flow freely and there’s often delectable nibbles thrown in with unbeatable deals to sweeten the deal. Looking for a bar to have a drink or two while going through ideas with your colleagues, or unwind and chill before your dinner appointment? Here’s our round up of the best drinking establishments to be seen at as the sun goes down.

Experience la dolce vita at Marcello’s hard-to-beat Aperitivo Hour, featuring $10 Spritzes that are served with smoked olives and aged Italian parmesan. Happy hour at this Italian craft cocktail bar runs from 7pm to 9pm from Monday to Saturday — perfect for those who can’t always get out of the office by 5pm. Located at Intercontinental Singapore Robertson Quay, the bar is hidden by a dark blue curtain and helmed by bartenders in snazzy white jackets. Besides the modern Italian cocktail list (the negronis are spot on), Marcello also houses the largest selection of amari in Singapore.

Martini Bar

Whether you like it shaken or stirred, the award-winning Martini Bar at Grand Hyatt Singapore’s Mezza9, which has one of the largest selection of martinis in the city, is almost certain to have your poison of choice. From 5pm to 9pm daily, the bar’s signature and classic martinis go for just $14. The lychee martini is a tried-and-tested favourite but the list ranges from uber-classics like the dry martini to decadent variations like the espresso martini. Other ‘Mezzatime’ deals include $14 handcrafted gin and tonics, sustainable wines by the glass as well as $9 beers.

Morton’s Bar

The happy hour at Morton’s Bar is the OG in Singapore. Affectionately called Mortini Night, happy hour runs from 5 to 7pm from Monday to Saturday, where a selection of the bar’s martinis are served at $15.95 each. Drinks may seem a little pricier compared to those at other joints, but here, the martinis are served American-style (read: supersized and very strong). And the clincher — complimentary filet mignon slices sandwiched between buttery loaves. We daresay they’re as good at the stuff the steakhouse serves, so come hungry and dig in.
