Best happy hour deals in Singapore: Where to get 1-for-1 beers, cocktails, wines, oysters and small plates in and around the CBD

Happy hour, Martini Bar

Whether it’s to wind down after a long day — or get the night started — these watering holes offer the best prices and options

Whatever your choice of poison, be it artisanal cocktails, fine wines and Champagnes or craft beers, there’s bound to be a watering hole in Singapore that does it exactly the way you like it. But, there’s one caveat — booze can be extremely pricey here on the little red dot. Lucky for those who thrive on a liquid diet, there’s a cornucopia of happy hour promotions all around town, where the drinks flow freely and there’s often delectable nibbles thrown in to sweeten the deal. Here’s our round up of the best drinking establishments to be seen at as the sun goes down.

This celebrity chef restaurant at Marina Bay Sands sure knows how to keep things interesting with different happy hour promotions just about every day of the week — yes, including weekends — except Friday. There’s Beer Mondays, Social Hour Tuesdays (50 per cent off all cocktails) and 1-for-1 on selected martinis on Wednesdays. On Saturdays and Sundays, happy hour not only runs from 2 to 9pm, you’ll also get to pick any of the promotions from the week to enjoy, while kicking back at the lounge with a selection of board games available.

The Black Swan

It doesn’t get much swankier than sipping on fine tipple at this beautiful Art Deco restaurant located in a restored 1930s building in the CBD while rubbing shoulders with the movers and shakers of the business world. Happy hour at The Black Swan runs from 5 to 8pm on weekdays and comprises $9 house pours, wines and draught beers paired with $2 oysters. Like Tanuki Raw, there’s a limit of six oysters per drink order.

Court Martial Bar

The location of the Court Martial Bar is probably enough to make you want to drop by, but do stay for a drink or two. Situated in the extremely stylish JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach, the bar occupies the site of the former Singapore NCO Court Martial office in the 1950s. During happy hour from Monday to Friday, 5pm to 10pm, house wines, spirits and beer are sold at $10. But the real gem here is the selection of house barrel aged cocktails, on offer at just $16. If you’re hungry, dig into the range of gourmet bar bites, like the coconut prawn with onion sambal or wagyu beef satay.

Take a trip down memory lane, but with a twist, at Loof, a breezy rooftop bar that pays homage to all things nostalgic about Singapore — there’s even a Mama Shop selling all manner of locally-made knick knacks. From 5pm, to 7pm on weekdays, the bar offers a tongue-in-cheek happy hour with house pours costing as much as the hour of the day. The $5 tipples are definitely a great motivation to wrap things up at the office early, we think.

Experience la dolce vita at Marcello’s hard-to-beat Aperitivo Hour, featuring $10 Spritzes that are served with smoked olives and aged Italian parmesan. Happy hour at this Italian craft cocktail bar runs from 7pm to 9pm from Monday to Saturday — perfect for those who can’t always get out of the office by 5pm. Located at Intercontinental Singapore Robertson Quay, this hidden bar is shrouded behind a dark blue curtain and helmed by bartenders decked out in snazzy white jackets. Besides the modern Italian cocktail list (the negronis are spot on), Marcello also houses the largest selection of amari in Singapore. Saluti!

Martini Bar

Whether you like it shaken or stirred, the award winning Martini Bar at Grand Hyatt Singapore’s Mezza9, which has one of the largest selection of martinis in the city, is almost certain to have your poison of choice. From 5pm to 9pm daily, the bar’s signature and classic martinis go for just $14. The lychee martini is a tried-and-tested favourite but the list ranges from uber-classics like the dry martini to decadent variations like the tiramisu martini. Other “Mezzatime” deals include $14 handcrafted gin and tonics and sustainable wines by the glass as well as $9 beers.

Morton’s Bar

The happy hour at Morton’s Bar is the OG in Singapore. Affectionately called Mortini Night, happy hour runs from 5 to 7pm from Monday to Saturday, where a selection of the bar’s martinis are served at $15.95 each. Drinks may seem a little pricier compared to those at other joints, but here, the martinis are served American-style (read: supersized and very strong). And the clincher — complimentary filet mignon slices sandwiched between buttery loaves. We daresay they’re as good at the stuff the steakhouse serves, so come hungry and dig in.

Post Bar

Located in historic Fullerton Hotel, the sophisticated Post Bar occupies the space that was formerly the main transaction hall of the General Post Office. With both an outdoor terrace as well as cool, dimly lit interiors, it is no wonder this establishment is a popular spot for business executives and hotel guests alike as the sun sets. During happy hour, which runs from 5pm to 8.30pm on weekdays and extends till midnight on Saturday, enjoy 1-for-1 on selected wines, spirits, beer and cocktails (from $15). Or if you’re in the mood to get a party started, this is where you can order Veuve Clicquot champagne by the bottle at a happy hour price of $118.

Tanuki Raw

Nestled in two cosy locations in the heart of town, this modern Japanese bar and eatery offers one of Singapore’s most beloved happy hours with $2 freshly shucked oysters on offer. If you are a seafood fiend, be at Tanuki Raw from 5pm and 8pm daily to nosh on these plump, briny bivalves – there is a limit of six oysters for every drink ordered (or you can order a bottle of wine and 12 oysters for $50). Still, it’s not a bad deal since the bar also offers martinis and cocktails for $10 during happy hour. At the Orchard Central outlet, you can also order salmon sashimi at $7 for 5 slices.
