The Sanlorenzo SX120 expresses the range’s defining principles in a more mature package
As enthusiasm for yachting continues to deepen across the region, owners are becoming increasingly discerning. Large superyachts, of course, will always turn heads. But among seasoned enthusiasts, there’s a growing emphasis on comfort, flexibility, and intelligent design.
It’s good news, then, that Sanlorenzo’s latest model, the SX120, takes these evolving priorities seriously. Set to be unveiled as the largest vessel in the shipyard’s crossover range at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2025, the yacht expresses the defining principles of the SX range—uninterrupted spatial flow, a strong connection to the surrounding environment, and a balance between the comfort of a flybridge yacht and the capability of an explorer—in a more mature package.

Spanning 36m in length with a gross tonnage of 270 GT, the Sanlorenzo SX120 isn’t shy about making its presence known. Its 8m beam and relatively shallow draught of just over 2.2m support both generous interior volume and navigational versatility, particularly in coastal and shallow-water cruising grounds. But what most distinguishes the SX120 is how that volume is used, and how it has been made available.
The Sanlorenzo SX120 is the first composite superyacht to utilise Volvo Penta’s new IPS Professional Platform, a compact and highly efficient propulsion system that reduces the footprint of the engine room. In doing so, it liberates valuable space for living and leisure areas, giving designers more freedom to pursue the SX range’s hallmark spatial logic.

This spatial clarity is immediately apparent in the work of Zuccon International Project. Tasked with designing the exterior of the vessel, the studio continues to bring its nuanced and signature approach to scale—retaining the sporty, low-slung lines that characterise the range. Key architectural features include a strong horizontal emphasis, softened by deep glass panels that connect the structure to the sea.
Despite its streamlined silhouette, the vessel is articulated across four decks, adding a sense of verticality to the design. On the main deck, a spacious salon sits beneath large windows, bathing the interior in natural light. Defined by its openness and minimal use of partitions, the space flows aft to a dining area that can seat up to 14, and forward to the owner’s suite, which enjoys direct access to a private bow lounge. The staircase—centrally positioned and sheathed in steel—provides a vertical link to the remaining levels.

Below, the lower deck houses four guest cabins, including one that can be opened up as a secondary lounge or media room, along with a hammam and crew quarters. Above, the upper deck offers a panoramic 360-degree view and can be configured as a media lounge, dining area, or informal salon depending on the owner’s preferences.
As expected from Sanlorenzo’s SX range, the vessel’s aft beach area—extending from 40 to 70 sqm via folding terraces—serves as both a social hub and a connection point to the sea. At its centre, a retractable pool—concealed beneath a lift-slide mechanism—adds functionality without disrupting the deck’s geometry. Movement throughout the vessel remains fluid, a direct result of both spatial thinking and the volume unlocked by the IPS platform.
That system, which pairs four 1,000 HP Volvo Penta D13 engines with steerable pods, offers performance and efficiency in equal measure. Eco Mode dynamically adjusts power based on demand, reducing consumption and mechanical wear, while Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) helps limit emissions. The SX120 achieves a top speed of 23 knots, cruises comfortably at 20, and offers a range of around 2,000 nautical miles at 10 knots.
