Robb takes the wheel: 2025 Xpeng G6

By Weixian Low 27 August, 2025

Calm, clever and quick to charm, the Xpeng G6 majors on serenity, smart tech and ultra-fast top-ups. And it’s so frugal, we didn’t plug in once in four days

If you judge a car by decibels and drama, the Xpeng G6 isn’t your headline act for sure. This is the quiet one with the confident smile; the sort of car that makes a busy week feel a notch softer. And over four days (with way more than the usual home-work shuffle), we never once reached for a charger. Credit a big battery, tidy efficiency, and an easygoing nature that prefers smooth momentum to chest-thumping theatrics.

Design-wise, the G6 reads like a mash-up: a playful, almost Hyundai Kona-like front that tapers to a coupe-SUV tail with a hint of Porsche Cayenne drama. And on the inside, our car’s white leatherette looked crisp and contemporary (catnip for minimalists, caution for coffee drinkers). The seats are generously cushioned with ventilation on the front seats to keep you fresh, and everyday touches are well-sorted–think two 50-watt wireless phone charging pads, multiple USBs, and a powered tailgate. The cabin itself is generously glazed and airy, helped by a panoramic glass roof, and a long wheelbase buys you space and that easygoing vibe.

The most important driving information is located directly in front of the driver on a 10.2-inch display. All other functionalities can be controlled via a central 14.96-inch screen with high resolution and quick, intuitive controls. Photo by Xpeng

But the tech is where the G6 leans in. A 10.2-inch driver display handles the essentials, with a crisp 14.96-inch central screen running Xmart OS on a Snapdragon 8155 chip. It’s snappy, intuitive, and updates over the air. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are baked inn, as is a 960W “Xopera” audio system with 18 speakers–including the driver’s headrest speakers that route prompts and phone calls without breaking the cabin’s hush. Also good to know: remote parking assist is on the menu too, should you fancy hopping out and letting the car shimmy itself into a parking bay (a party trick we didn’t have the opportunity, or frankly, the need, to try.

In terms of numbers, the Long Range trim packs an 87.5 kWh net battery and a 210 kW motor (approximately 282 hp) with 440 Nm of torque, which is good for a century sprint timing of 6.2 seconds and a WLTP range of up to 570km. The Standard Range variant, on the other hand, runs on a 66 kWh battery with 190 kW, with up to 435km of range. Charging is where the G6 punches above its weight: up to 280 kW DC charging on the Long Range means it’ll take less than 20 minutes to charge up from 10 to 80 per cent.

On the move, the powertrain is zippy enough for gaps and ramps, but we find that the chassis is tuned for comfort over corner-carving bravado. It’s quiet, composed, and rarely flustered, more spa-day than track-day, and that’s precisely its charm: think connected, not combative.

Our final thoughts? The Xpeng G6 is a modern lounge on wheels, one that’s smart, serene, and startlingly easy to live with. For us, it’s exactly the sort of EV that makes the week glide by.
