One&Only Moonlight Basin, launching this November 2025, is now open for reservations

Montana, or Big Sky Country, remains a magical place even in present-day USA. Dominated by mountains and untamed rivers that run for miles, it is paradise for the traveller motivated by outdoor adventure, hot springs and pristine wilderness like Glacier and Yellowstone.

When it comes to accommodation, one could rent an Airstream, stay at a dude ranch or soon enough, One&Only Moonlight Basin, the luxury brand’s first alpine resort and US debut that will open this 18 November 2025.

Nestled in the picturesque Moonlight Basin community of Big Sky, in the Northern Rockies of southwest Montana, the 97-hectare property is the ideal base for exploring the region’s natural wonders all year round. In the winter, guests may enjoy direct gondola access to Big Sky Resort’s vast skiable terrain, and once the warmer months roll around, horseback riding, fly-fishing and whitewater rafting are just a fraction of the Montana experience.

One&Only Moonlight Basin is home to 73 rooms and suites, 19 freestanding cabins and private homes that offer a residential-style vacation with a whole list of inclusions. Designed by Olson Kundig, a global design practice whose work includes Martin’s Lane Winery in Canada and the Four Seasons in Telluride, the resort makes use of materials that mirror its natural surroundings, such as local art, cosy textiles and floor-to-ceiling windows. Every room and suite is every guest’s sanctuary, complete with a fireplace, private balcony and the most luxurious bathrooms.

Beyond the rooms, guests can look forward to a 1,579-sqm wellness retreat, where there are treatment rooms, a hot tub, cold plunge and heated open-air pool surrounded by revitalising mountain air. There is also a collection of diverse culinary offerings, from the Japanese-style steakhouse Akira Back and all-day dining restaurant Wildwood, to the Prohibition-inspired Moon Shack, a speakeasy pouring fine whiskies and craft cocktails infused with local spirits.
