Head distiller Adam Hannett combines distinguished vintages to make a limited edition Rare Cask Series
In 2012, Bruichladdich’s then master distiller identified the 1984 vintage as perfect for its celebrated bourbon style and re-casked it in bourbon for further ageing.
Now, head distiller Adam Hannett has taken the last dozen casks to produce the exceptional 1984. And, to make this a true celebration of the distillery’s finest whiskies, he has added two equally distinguished vintages to make a limited-edition Rare Cask Series. In addition to the 1984 is the 1985, transferred from bourbon casks for final ageing in French oak, and the ultra-rare 1986, just seven casks matured in sherry butts.
Each has its distinct taste, but between them the tasting notes read like a cosy teatime with aromas and flavours of tea leaves, vanilla custard, ginger biscuit, banana bread, marzipan, fruits and more. Hannett says: “These whiskies when tasted leave me speechless. They are in their prime, the last of their kind and can never be repeated, never recreated. Nothing quite like them will ever be seen again.”
