Robb Report Singapore Thought Leader: David Li, CEO of GreaterHeat

Get to know David Li, CEO of GreaterHeat and and member of the Robb Report Singapore Thought Leaders community

Although technopreneur David Li is a relentless pursuer of cutting-edge innovations and technologies, his ambition is to build something truly foundational. Li’s company, GreaterHeat, provides Web3-based services that include crypto-mining, blockchain distributed storage, application software development, and cloud computing. But what really underscores the business, he says, is the “building of infrastructure”.

Li points to examples like railway systems, transportation networks, the microchip industry and social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. “The products of the truly great and powerful companies are all infrastructure-level technologies,” he says. “They are essential and something that we use every day. Only by making this kind of product, we have a chance to become a great company.”

How did you get to where you are now?

I have always sought for my businesses to be at the forefront of the latest technologies. From mobile Internet in the early days, to blockchain storage, Web3, and AI, we have proudly thrived for 11 years. Over this time, my comprehension of technology and business has significantly evolved. However, there is always room for improvement. I embrace three essential steps: self-study, hands-on experience, and critical reflection.

How do you deal with setbacks?

Indeed, I’ve experienced a significant business failure in the past, which left me burdened with debts and emotionally distraught. But through determination and resilience, I managed to overcome these challenges. Now, when I encounter even more substantial difficulties, I can confront them with composure and poise.

What is your idea of success?

Having a life partner with a wonderful personality, someone with whom I can build a loving family. Additionally, I yearn to surround myself with a community of like-minded individuals to embark on exciting and meaningful ventures together.

What do you consider to be your top professional achievement?

It is premature to discuss significant achievements at this point, I only reflect on the past 10 years of my entrepreneurial journey. It is widely recognised that it takes about two decades of persistent effort for entrepreneurs to achieve success. So, I am proud to say that I am currently in a stage of exploration and growth, knowing that continuous hard work is essential to progress.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

To make data storage and computing costs nearly negligible. In the future, virtual data assets will become the most valuable and indispensable resources. My vision is to ensure that these assets are accessible to everyone by working relentlessly to reduce the cost of holding them to virtually zero.
