The oldest known Scotch whisky for auction

A 200-year-old Scotch whisky, believed to have been sipped by Queen Victoria, was discovered in a hidden cellar in a 750-year-old Scottish castle. Around 40 bottles, distilled in 1833 and rebottled in 1932, were found. 24 individual lots will be sold through Whisky Auctioneer from 24 November to 4 December. The find was authenticated through cellar inventories and carbon dating by the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre, confirming its early 19th-century origin. The Blair Castle archives revealed historical references to whisky production in the early 1800s.

Origin Made launches new initiative

Porto-based Singaporean-founded brand Origin Made’s latest Experimental Editions stemmed from a broken wooden cup in their showroom. A visitor saw value in the imperfect piece, inspiring the brand to explore the beauty in imperfection. The Experimental Editions collection showcases one-off exploratory pieces, celebrating irregularities in production, such as off-production prototypes or material imperfections. This curated format highlights the craftsmanship journey, providing a unique and genuine perspective on design. The project also addresses the challenges of small-scale artisanal production, emphasizing relationships and adapting to artisans’ schedules and preferences.
