Celebrity chefs opening restaurants in luxury residences: Gordon Ramsay, Romain Fornell, Wolfgang Puck and more

Antares, Barcelona

Dani Garcia, Wolfgang Puck and MasterChef Italia winner Giorgio Locatelli are just a few of the chefs opening restaurants in residences overseen by Four Seasons, Edition Hotels, Dubai’s Atlantis and more

Deprived of their usual opportunities to dine out this year, foodies the world over took to their home kitchens in droves.

However satisfying that might be, there’s nothing like having the work of a master chef presented at your table with silver service. A new breed of luxury residences, with renowned restaurants attached, allows the best of both worlds – giving new meaning to the idea of fine dining at home.
According to Erin van Tuil, partner at Knight Frank Australia, the opportunity to dine in-house with an internationally celebrated culinary great is a huge drawcard in the eyes of the discerning property buyer.

“Offering globally renowned chefs and world-class restaurants within luxury residences creates a level of exclusivity for purchasers that cannot be found elsewhere,” she explains. “Access to distinguished chefs and restaurants at one’s home address provides not only convenience, but quality entertainment for family and business associates without stepping outside the building.”

Van Tuil adds that, when speaking to purchasers of these homes, the culinary offering is a highly attractive selling point.

“Residents are often able to request priority bookings to restaurants or order dishes to their homes through the concierge service,” she said. “Purchasers seeking this level of serviced living and direct access to amenities are prepared to pay the premium attached.”

To help find these epicurean experiences, Knight Frank has compiled a list of the world’s best residential buildings with Michelin-starred resident chefs.

Antares, Barcelona

Another distinguished chef to make his mark on the luxury residential scene is Romain Fornell. Having received his first Michelin star at age 24, French-born Fornell has become a tour de force in the world of European gastronomy with 13 restaurants in France and Spain. His latest project, Grand Café Rouge, is set to be incorporated into Barcelona’s newest design masterpiece Antares.

Here, all 89 residences offer indoor and outdoor living with terraces that provide panoramic views of the Mediterranean.

Antares also features several resort-style amenities, which include a wellness centre with spa, steam and sauna rooms, a yoga pod, paddle court, rooftop infinity pool and a garden pavilion equipped with a virtual golf simulator, cinema room (residents only) and, of course, Fornell’s Grand Café Rouge.

Crown Residences at One Barangaroo, Sydney

At Crown Sydney, Australia, a luxe resort property opening in December, Japan’s legendary Nobu Matsuhisa will launch a new addition to his global chain of acclaimed Nobu restaurants.

Those living at Crown Residences at One Barangaroo, the residential component of the tower, will be among the first to taste his new menu, which promises unseen creations reflecting the chef’s travels. They will also have priority booking privileges and the ability to order in or organise private catering of Nobu’s signature dishes.

As they dine, residents of the property’s 82 spacious flats, fully serviced by Crown Resorts, will enjoy views of Sydney icons, the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

Four Seasons Private Residences, Madrid

In Spain, Spanish celebrity chef Dani Garcia, recipient of three Michelin stars, is the creative force behind Dani, the rooftop restaurant at the refurbished landmark Four Seasons Madrid.

Knight Frank reports that Garcia, one of Andalusia’s most renowned chefs who received his first Michelin star at 25, is going on to train in New York before returning to his home country.

Foodies living at the Four Seasons Private Residences, an intimate collection of 22 flats on the top four floors of the hotel, can boast of Dani as their local go-to.

Their residences are complemented by a wellness area spanning three levels, a dedicated team of 14 (headed by a director of services) to take care of everything from routine maintenance to private chefs, and a luxury shopping centre, La Galería de Canalejas, with Hermès in place as the flagship boutique.

Mayfair Park Residences, London

Meanwhile, in London, the first European venture of Austrian-American culinary phenomenon, Wolfgang Puck, can be found at the upcoming Mayfair Park Residences.

Since his career took off in the ’70s making him a household name, Puck has enjoyed successes with his restaurants Spago, Chinois, Postrio and Cut. And, like Nobu, he has collaborated on numerous occasions with leading hotels to bring his California-inspired French cuisine to their resorts and advise on F&B offerings.

Mayfair Park residents may avail themselves of in-house or at-home dining at Wolfgang Puck’s new London branch of Cut, established in the adjoining 45 Park Lane hotel. They will also have access to amenities such as residents’ lounge access, a Health Club, state-of-the-art gym and treatment rooms.

The Residences at the West Hollywood Edition, Los Angeles

In Los Angeles, Knight Frank says that the fortunate few who can call The Residences at the West Hollywood Edition home are “guaranteed a seat, every time” at Ardor, one of the most sought-after restaurants in LA.

Led by John Fraser, the acclaimed New York chef with a Michelin pedigree – including Nix in New York’s West Village and Dovetail, the signature restaurant at The West Hollywood Edition – Ardor brings the chef back to his Californian roots in his first LA venture.

Priority reservation at his latest establishment is one of the many luxuries the Edition lifestyle offers to its residents – among them in-home dining, exclusive rooftop lounge access, a full-service spa and fitness centre, valet parking and an array of recreational spaces.

But opportunities are limited. Among the newly completed boutique collection of only 20 residences, designed by architect John Pawson with views of the Hollywood Hills, only a few remain available.

The Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences, Dubai

The Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences is set to become one of Dubai’s most exclusive dining destinations.

Culinary icons assembled on The Palm Jumeirah include three Michelin-starred British chef Heston Blumenthal’s Dinner by Heston, Estiatorio Milos by acclaimed Greek chef Costas Spiliadis, La Mar by Gastón Acurio, and Jaleo by Spanish Michelin-starred chef José Andrés.

Those hungry for more can choose from the likes of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, Ariana Bundy, Nobu Matsuhisa, MasterChef Italia 2019 winner Giorgio Locatelli and Gregoire Berger.
