Christie's Jewels & Handbags Online: The London Edit auction

One of these highly rare items below might just end up in your hands – but only if you’re lucky and swift enough

If you still can’t figure how you could utilise your travel fund, here’s a suggestion: save it – at least for the next two days. Come Wednesday, Christie’s will present the Jewels & Handbags Online: The London Edit auction, and there’s good reason why you’d be splurging big.

Happening online from 9 to 23 June 2021, the auction will certainly have jewellery and handbag collectors on the edge of their seats. A curated selection of antique jewels will be presented, from renowned jewellers like Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, Garrard, Tiffany & Co. and Buccellati. Also going under the hammer are more than 150 handbags, accessories and lifestyle items from luxury heavyweights such as Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior and Fendi. The pieces will be on view at Christie’s London from 11 to 16 June, and will coincide with Christie’s Private Sales selling exhibition, The Colours of Summer, which will unveil a treasure trove of the most immeasurable coloured gemstones.

Stars of the show include a group of three graduated natural saltwater pearl necklaces (estimated to be auctioned off for £175,000 – 200,000 (S$328,000 – 374,000)), formerly belonging to Lady Ludlow and thence by descent to the late Duchess of Abercorn; a comprehensive parure of Passe Partout jewels by Van Cleef & Arpels (estimated to be auctioned off for £60,000 – 90,000 (S$112,000 – 168,000)); and a fascinating sugarloaf cabochon sapphire and diamond brooch by Cartier that doubles as a bracelet (estimated to be auctioned off for £80,000 – 120,000 (S$150,000 – 225,000)).

As if the aforementioned isn’t enticing enough, perhaps the ultimate deal-clincher here is the Hermès Shiny Bleu Électrique Mini Constance 18. Making its first auction debut, the bag makes a statement with 18k white gold detailing and over 8.5 carats of pave set brilliant diamonds. Nevertheless, it isn’t the only item that’s worth putting your money on; we foresee many jostling over one-of-a-kind pieces like the Hermès Limited Edition Marble Silk Constance 24, Hermès Shiny Marron Foncé Birkin 35 perfected with 18k gold and diamond hardware and the rare Hermès Bleu Marine Faubourg Birkin 20. Hopefully, lady luck would be on your side.
